With lunch Stop at Skunk Cabbage Meadow
Last week of June 1998

The El Nino snow pack melt has water everywhere.
The lower part of the trail runs through California Live Oak Trees.
The manzanita bushes are exploding with flowers.
The flower groups are bigger than they have been for a long time.
Beyond the saddle, is skunk cabbage meadow, our lunch stop.
Here's all that's left after decades of
woodpeckers looking for lunch in this dead tree.
Along the trail left over dynamite holes from
where the trail was blasted out of solid rock.
Wild, Yes, Native. No. Found these
growing by a creek. There were lots
of them. Someone, a long time ago
must have planted a few bulbs.
This is not a good thing to do.
Due to their numbers, I would guess
the first were planted 20 or 30 years ago.
A Snow Plant in its mature stage.

Trail Info - The trail gains 1700 vertical feet from Humber park to the saddle in 2.5 miles one way. The side trip around around the meadow is another 1.7 miles. Total round trip 6.7 miles. Bring lots of water to drink.
