Bob and Nancy Ulrich's Day Hiking Adventures with photos in Joshua Tree National Park Report #JT02 Split Rock to Pine Grove Pass in Joshua Tree National Park Hike Report JT02
This hike starts at an unmarked trail head at Split Rock. The parking lot is located in a picnic area just east of Jumbo Rocks. Look for a sign that says Split Rock. The road will head north from the main road.
At the end of the Road, you will see Split Rock. The trail starts to the left of the rock behind the car.
From the back of Split Rock, you can see our destination (about 2 miles away), a finger rock at the top of what I call Pine Grove Pass. The hills are called Eagle Cliff HIlls, but the pass remains unnamed. I call it Pine Grove Pass.
Here's a close up of the finger rock at the pass.
(Yes, Those are pine trees)
Looking back at Split rock from the pass, give a perspective on how far we have come. After a stop for lunch, another look at the view, it will soon be time to head back. Link to our other Joshua Tree Adventures

A Comprehensive Hiking Guide by Patty Furbush
This guide has trail descriptions and maps. I recommend it. Some times it gets backordered on amazon.com, but It is worth the wait.
These photos were taken on the Eagle Cliff Hill/Mine Hike found in Chapter 6, Hike 8 of this book.
