We left Logan Pass at 9:15 AM and arrived at
the loop just in time to catch the 5:00PM Shuttle. |
The Highline Trail is Glacier at
it's finest!
No day hiking adventure in Glacier Nat'l Park would be complete
without a day on the Highline Trail. This hike is about 11.5 miles from Logan Pass
to the Loop. The Loop is a place on the Going to the Sun Highway where a shuttle bus will
pick you up and take you back to your car at Logan Pass, if you bought a ticket the day
before. The views are truly outstanding! |

View upon View upon View await you around every bend, and turn of the trail. |
 |

From the humble moss on a tree to the majestic
peaks, the highline offers views that must be experienced. |
 |

This view looking down a glacier valley puts a perspective on the
size of it all. |
 |
The trail takes you over
the Continental Divide. There are some large rocks just below the pass that are a great
place for a lunch stop. here we are sitting on one of these rocks, after a lunch break. |
|
 |
| The
trail takes you from Logan Pass to Granite Park Chalet, and then onto the Loop. The
first trail sign is 11 Km out at the junction with the Glacier Overlook. |
In addition
to many beautiful view, the trail gives you a good close up look at rock cliffs. Here
Nancy takes a drink before continuing on. |
| Additional notes: The
Granite Park chalet has lodging and can serve as a good base camp for additional hikes in
the back country. If you are planning to go to Glacier Nat'l Park, email Nancy or I as we
have additional info that we haven't had time to post yet, that will make your trip more
enjoyable. |
